I took yesterday off and took a stroll instead of a jog. My leg muscles thanked me.
Today I didn't want to do the routine. I hoped it would rain harder; I tried eating; I tried napping; I tried doing the elliptical. Nothing worked. (The elliptical made my quads scream.) So I put on my super reflective vest, ear warmers, got Saba all ready, and out I went.
Before I got down the driveway I had to come back for the flashlight. I got a little mag light. I couldn't figure out how to turn the darn thing on. I got the whole lens off, but no light. Eventually I figured it out, and Saba and I headed back out. The light was worthless. It barely lit my feet let alone any distance. I'll look for one of my dollar flashlights tomorrow - I know how to turn them on and they light better.
Near the beginning of the warm up I stopped to do a little Saba clean up. He seemed a little alert, but I was focused trying not to get any poop on me. When I finally looked up there was a man in black with a black dog walking our way. I almost eeked.
Overall the routine was good. My pace was about the same as my first routine, but I wasn't in as much pain. I'm working on my posture and techique. I think I need different sneakers. I also need to push a little harder - today wasn't as much of a workout. It was difficult with limited light, wet roads, and different hills. (Speaking of hills, unfortunately my "cool down" was mostly uphill - I'll have to work on my route.)
So, I made poor dinner choices, but the routine was complete. I'm glad my attempts to not complete it didn't work.

Tracie Tried to Run
And I did!!!
Today was day one of the Couch to 5K program, and not only did I survive, I did well! I was hesitant about starting out with week one which consists of running for 60 seconds and walking for 90. I felt that maybe I should warm up for a week with just walking perhaps. I decided to try the actual workout and if I felt it was too much, just walk.
First, though, I needed to dress appropriately. It was chilly out today, and this being my first go at this event, I had no idea how to dress. I had on decent sneakers, a pair of grey jogging pants I purchased at the thrift store, a yellow sweatshirt, a white scarf, black gloves, and white ear coverings. I was the looking the part and feeling good! I had to figure out how to hold Tasha, carry poop bags, and press my phone buttons though. It was quite a workout just getting organized and out the door. (Halfway through the workout the gloves came off.)
I was quite surprised at how not-as-hard-as-I-imagined-it-would-be it was! I didn't get a side sticker, my shins didn't disintegrate into dusty splints (although we'll see tomorrow), and although my thighs and glutes were working and were pushed, they weren't causing me to reconsider my decision to go with it.
I came home and tried hitting the heavy bag too. You never know when you might get mugged while running with a doggie bag of poop in your hands and will need to defend yourself. Better to be prepared.
